You can overcome these self-created obstacles with a little hard work and determination because here`s the truth, no matter what task you’re taking on, you can set yourself up for success!
In any journey, obstacles are unavoidable. We will always experience struggles and hardships. And this article aims to prepare you overcome these obstacles to have a smooth sailing towards success.
What does success mean to you?
Success is different for everyone. We all have our own definition of success. One might say having a million dollar in their bank account is a success while others might be content for a happy family and good health. What does success mean to you?
It is something that can only be defined and measured by you. It can be defined as happiness, wealth, thriving business. Let`s take a look at what successful people are saying about their own success.
“Success is risk without fear and reward measured not just by dollars but by the time I create to enjoy those rewards.” — Gilbert Melott, Founder, NextVoice247
“If you are working on something that you really care about, you don’t have to be pushed. The vision pulls you.” – Steve Jobs
“To me, the definition of success is waking up in the morning with a smile on your face, knowing it’s going to be a great day. I was happy and felt like I was successful when I was poor, living six guys in a three-bedroom apartment, sleeping on the floor.” – John Wooden, Basketball Coach
I measure success from whether the people close to me are happy and that they love me. It is also nice to feel like you made a difference — inventing something or raising kids or helping people in need.” – Warren Buffett, CEO of Berkshire Hathaway
6 Tips to Overcome Obstacles to Your Success
Here are some ways to deal with obstacles that may thwart your endeavors:
1. Understand your goals.
Knowing exactly what it is you’re trying to do is crucial in setting up yourself to success because you can’t just run into a journey without a plan of some kind. Your goals are your motivation and your guide in this journey so take the time to plan them out. Understand the steps you intend to take to reach your goals.
Even with an exceptional plan, the reality is that things rarely go exactly as you’d expect. You’ll have to make changes at times, and that’s okay! You`ll have to pause and face some struggles but when you fully understand your goals you will be prepared for the unexpected with ideas on how to handle any situation.
Here`s a tip, identify the parts of your plan that may become problematic and lay out alternatives. Have some plan B or plan C laid out and if they don`t work, don`t worry, you have 26 letters on the alphabet. Meaning you can have as many alternative plans as this.
2. Trust yourself.
You’re in charge of your journey to success. You are the driver or the captain of this journey. You set your goals and you’re the one making it happen, so, it is crucial to trust yourself. If you truly have a great passion for what you’re going to do, then you’ll be the best judge of what you want.
Follow your instincts and trust in the process. That little voice in the back of your head may very well end up telling you exactly what you need to succeed in your goals.
3. Ask for help.
If there’s something in your way and it’s too big of an obstacle for you to remove on your own, ask for help! There are people who have been on your journey and there are people who have achieved success in what you`re trying to do, so ask support from them. You can always find people who can give the support and help that you need.
The hard truth is you can’t do everything by yourself. As humans, we’re social beings and we need help from those around us so find your community. Find the right people and ask help from the right people.
Get your friends, family or co-workers involved and welcome their help on how to get around an obstacle in your path. This will bring in new ideas and fresh perspectives on the problem in ways you may have never considered.
4. Gain a fresh perspective.
There are times when, no matter how hard you try, things just don’t go your way. This is where you need to take a step back, and look at things from a different mindset or perspective. You can always gain new perspectives by reading books, meeting new people or listening to podcasts. What I love to do to gain new perspectives is joining rooms on clubhouse. There are a lot of fascinating people you can meet on this networking app.
When you become used to your routine, so the fine details can easily slip past you so take a break and walk away for a little bit. Change something in your routine and do something new. Change your focus for a time; then come back to the problem and you may see something you missed.
5. Never ever give up.
Nothing has ever been solved or accomplished by giving up. No successful people have reached success if they have given up on their dreams. No prominent athletes have achieved victory if they have given up on their goals. Vince Lombardi said it best: “Winners never quit and quitters never win!” This is as true as it gets.
Get a healthy dose of inspiration and motivation from the people around you, from the books you read, movies you watch and from the people you follow on social media. One book that I love is Ikigai by Hector Garcia and Casa de Col on de Palmas. Ikigai is our reason for living. Ikigai is the one thing and one reason we wake up every day. And according to the Japanese, we all have Ikigai`s. When you have your Ikigai in Life, this will help you not to give up on your dreams.
6. Start over
Sometimes, despite all your efforts, you need to rebuild from the ground up. Maybe one of your fundamental ideas was wrong and had an effect on everything else. This happens, and while it’s a setback, it’s not the end of your dream. There is no harm in starting again. We sometimes have to change our approach completely. Keep at the problem until you find a solution. It’s there; you just have to find it. With a little more effort and hard work, you can do it! Remember to believe in yourself and trust in your dreams. You can make them into reality.
Being successful isn’t easy and it involves a lot of hard work, dedication and sometimes sacrifices. With these tips, a good plan, and positive people around you to help, you can accomplish anything you set your mind to. You can weather storms that get in your way. You can jump over hurdles to achieve the success you want.
